WILLIAM SLAUGHTER
American

William Slaughter was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1926. He grew up amid the splendor and beauty of the hill country which provided much inspiration in his developing painting skills.

He is a self-taught artist whose love for Texas and its people guided him in creating beautiful and peaceful landscapes. His gentle heart and strong beliefs led him to become a Lutheran Minister in 1952. Although never leaving his paint brushes, he served many congregations from Lubbock, Texas to Mexico City.

Encouraged by many of his admirers to start exhibiting, his first show was with the Artist Association in Dallas. In 1968 he won first prize in landscape painting, and in 1973 he received the Froman Award for “Best of Show.”

Although a wide variety of landscapes inspire Slaughter, it is the gentle beauty of the Texas hill country which truly speaks to him. His canvases of fields of Bluebonnets or stately live oak trees evoke memories of quieter times. In Slaughter's paintings the sky is always blue, the clouds are light and airy, and the vivid bluebonnet fields are enveloped in warm sunlight.

As an icon in American landscape art, Mr. Slaughter has captured many hearts. His paintings will go down in history as great treasures depicting Texas and its everlasting beauty.
