Gary Leonard was born in Wisconsin in 1956. An artist since childhood, he won awards for his work as early as age 17. He wanted to put his passion to work, so in 1975 he began studying design and illustration at Milwaukee Area Technical College to pursue a career as a commercial artist. After graduating with honors he started work at a leading Milwaukee design firm in 1978. After 11 years of refining his skills, he became principal of the firm, Goes Studios Inc., which he continues to own and operate.

Throughout the years, Gary continued pursue his fine art and study the masters. His work is strongly influenced by Sargent. He enjoys the challenges of figurative work, focusing on color and composition rendered spontaneously to achieve romantic images.
